Trying to be Intellectual: The Sedition Act, IPOS and Ez-Jail

Alright, in an attempt to be intellectual, I shall blog about all these which kinda interested me then (note: they are all outdated news).

*************

The Sedition Act

Yup, if in any case that you haven't heard the news, here's the report from CNA.

haha, I am not very political one la, and I probably am not able to write very sound too, but I think it is not very right to go criticising other races in your blog.

I mean, true enough, we all probably may be a lil bit racist in our real nature, but is it sound or right to condemn another race in your blog or to, in a way, "promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races of the population of Singapore?"

I don't think so, right?

Somehow I feel there are many foolish people around the world, be it people who do not submit to authority i.e. the government, or people who think they are very great to go around "promoting race hate" and "putting their country's racial harmony at risk".

Sometimes I'd just feel such people are probably very fond of riots, or to revisit what happened to us in 1964. They probably wanna go out onto the streets to fight with other races and see who wins. And so what, upon knowing who wins? Barbaric acts they are.

We are all friends even though we come from different races! =)

 **************

Right or not right?

To quote something from the Q and A of IPOS (Intellectual Property Office of Singapore)

Q. How do I know whether the songs in my computer or MP3 player are legal?
A. If you didn't buy it from a legal site like Soundbuzz, it is probably illegal. Plus, when you buy a CD, the rights only apply to the CD; this means you cannot rip songs out and make them into MP3s for your player.
Generally, it's advisable to check the terms and conditions of use before you make a copy of the songs. -- SOURCE: INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE OF SINGAPORE"

This guy, Chris, wrote an email in to IPOS and you probably can read the super long and pretty reader unfriendly email they exchanged here.

I didn’t quite like his attitude in addressing this issue, but I kinda like his.

Not as extreme and definitely more readable.

My take on ripping CDs? Hmmm, my take is you rip it, but u dun share it with others. Then again, the bigger issue is downloading now, isn’t it so?

People rather spend their money on all sorts of things than to buy that cd which they like. Some people also do not wanna buy the whole CD because they probably just want that one song.

hmmm......like who would actually pay to download songs when they can conveniently get it somewhere else? I guess I should think more about it...

To be jailed for dishonest commuters?

(Since the article will be archived in a few days time and be out of access, I decided to paste it here)

Bus, taxi fare cheats could end up in jail

By Christopher Tan Sept 20, 2005 The Straits Times

COMMUTERS who cheat on bus and taxi fares could end up behind bars under proposed legislation to stamp out a problem that has dogged Singaporean transport operators for years.Bus companies, for example, lose an estimated $9 million a year to fare cheats. The penalties aimed at protecting bus firms and cabbies against cheats are similar to those provided by the Rapid Transit Systems Act for rail operators.Typically, a dishonest commuter taps his ez-link card on the exit reader well before his intended stop. This way, he is charged a lower fare.
Under proposed amendments to the Public Transport Council Act introduced in Parliament yesterday, bus commuters found by council-appointed inspectors to have paid incorrect fares will face a penalty charge.

Those who fail to pay this yet-to-be-determined charge face fines of up to $1,000. Repeat offenders face up to $2,000 in fines and risk a jail term of up to six months.

SBS Transit spokesman Tammy Tan said: 'The proposed changes take into account the fact that our drivers get cheated, whether intentionally or not. While the majority of our customers do not cheat, there is a small proportion who do, and they are penalising those who pay the full fare.'
Currently, those caught underpaying bus fares will only be required to make up the difference, said Ms Tan, who hopes the proposed changes 'will deter incidences of fare misuse'.Those who cheat cabbies will be dealt with more swiftly.

They immediately face a fine of $1,000 for the first offence, and $2,000 or a jail term of up to six months for subsequent offences.

'The new section 24D criminalises the failure to pay taxi fares,' says an explanatory note accompanying the proposed legislation.

According to ComfortDelGro, which controls 77 per cent of Singapore's 22,000 taxis, its cabbies face more than 40 cases of non-payment a month.

Veteran cabby C K Chan, 53, said he feels powerless when a fare does not pay. 'I think some of these people know that we can't do anything to them. This new law should make things better.'Other proposed amendments include a five-year operator licence for bus companies.
Currently, bus operators apply for annual route licences. The extra requirement is expected to give the Public Transport Council more teeth to enforce service standards.

Punish bus operators who overcharge too

Sept 22, 2005 The Straits Times

THE proposal to fine and jail commuters who cheat on bus and taxi fares ('Bus, taxi fare cheats could end up in jail'; ST, Sept 20) aims 'to stamp out a problem that has dogged Singaporean transport operators for years'.

It was estimated that bus companies lose $9 million a year to fare cheats.

I would like to ask the bus operators how much they have gained from overcharging when the ez-link card was introduced.Although the incidence of overcharging may have been reduced through the introduction of automatic fare-stage updating, I still experience overcharging and would not bother to claim a refund from TransitLink.

While dishonest commuters should now think twice before cheating on fares, bus operators should not get away scot-free when they overcharge honest fare-paying commuters. In some cases, commuters didn't even know they had been overcharged.

Similarly, taxi drivers who take longer routes so as to charge commuters more should also be fined and jailed.

The proposal to punish cheating commuters must work both ways.

Wah, to this person, *clap clap clap*

haha, you are good, man! Dishonest commuters get jailed! Dishonest bus operators get jailed! Dishonest taxi uncles who go here and there before taking you to your destination gets jailed too! So who's left???

Wow, then Singapore will be clear of dishonest people as all those dishonest people are probably spending their time at Changi. And people who remain will probably be 1/100 of Singapore's population. Ok, maybe not that bad, maybe 1/97.

Wah.....nowadays like whatever thing you do also can get you into trouble.

But how do bus operators overcharge you? Am I ignorant or what?

But hor, I think those dishonest people are pretty disgusting leh....like why do they in the first place wanna cheat bus fares? To cheat a few ten cents even. I mean true, there may be people who face serious financial problem, but then they have to take hard way liao lor. I mean, things are harder when you are poorer, but you have to reserve your dignity. I am extremely put off by those people who tap their ez link in front and when they pass the exit ez link reader that they tap it again.

Very er xin!

Anyway la, here's an article  Mr brown wrote which I found pretty funny.

Going out liao~~

I keep having tummy aches.....kill me.

Wah lau, I cannot believe I can be THIS morbid. Why ah? Am I siao or what? I dreamt yesterday that there was this group of us going on a trip, mission trip or something I suppose. Then somehow (I forgot how) things got hopeless, and many of us felt it unable to go on anymore and the only resort that we have is to go to meet our Lord. Was it this way or was there some villian to force us to jump down the cliff. I still remembered telling my friends very firmly to "just jump" anyway our hope is certain. So they jumped, two by two, a pair of gals, and a pair of guys, supposingly the guy and guy the best frens and the gal and gal the best frens. They tied their legs together (for what? I forgot), and they jumped down. Then it was my turn. Who was I tied together with? I forgot. Maybe I wasnt tied together w someone because I dun have best frens. Oh anyway, when it was my turn to jump, I AM SO SHOCKED WITH THE THOUGHT that passed my mind. I am shocked at it still now. I am not going to tell you what's the thought that passed my mind. It shall remain as my little (shameful) secret. Anyway while I was hesitating to jump, some circumstances just made it such that we do not need to die anymore. And yes, the abrupt ending, I felt very bad for the 4 frens who died, and for myself for having those thoughts. And for having such a morbid dream which kept me uncomfortable for the rest of my sleep I suppose.... I woke up early today and I can actually go to work earlier and probably buy some 经济米粉along the way. Now I blogged, I wasted my time, and I still wanna eat my 米粉, I think I will be late. Slap me..

Bored? Boredom? Bore....

Yep, blogging for the first time in Word, anyway, nothing great. These few days have been much of a bore really. Going out doesn’t seem to help in any sense to dispel the boredom when just a lil bit of thing that you say without ANY evil intention completely dissed the other person off and all you get is a super awkward bus journey back home. Hey, but Bridget Jones is still very nice! Haha… Wah, I can’t believe I would feel my blog entries are very boring till a few days ago that I read them. Why, do I have nothing better to do than to blog about things that I do everyday? That seemed to be pretty idiotic leh… I think the reason of my so called jadedness may be due to leading a lifestyle that is absoduperlutely mundane i.e. without challenges. And to top it up, my friends don’t seem to be in that kinda mood to do crazy stuffs to spice up life a lil. Haha….shifting blame huh?? Yup, I am quite sure I am not super fond of school though most people would say treasure your schooling days while you still can before facing the ugly corporate world which is infested with politics. Or possibly because my “working world” is pretty clean of politics. Hey, but I may change this lifestyle of mine soon! =) to take up another challenge in life that I pretty sure will change some things. I am reading this book now Image hosted by Photobucket.com Hey, he is very hilarious ok? A bit unexpected right? I thought he is only good in music, but I didn’t know he is THAT good and popular and achieved in the music realm. Nice colorful book too, though a lil thick, but the book spine is pink! Hot pink! So flirtatious right? He wrote his first musical when he was like only 12? And directed it too. Anyway his first song was pretty funny: “Clippetty Cloppetty, Clippetty Cloppetty, Clippetty Cloppetty, Clip. Ho!” I shall not tell you what that song meant. Of course he has lots of other funny things like his grandma and people letting him try on liquor when he was just like a very young child, how he and his family are all party animals, how he shit thru his pants and managed to leave them unsoiled etc. I think he is a pretty impressive person in that sense. As I think of my life, that if one day I were to pen down my biography, will it be as eventful and colorful as like Mr Dick Lee’s, I greatly doubt so. At some point as I recount my life, I would even consider it to be “very sian”. No wonder so many people whom I know wanna so much to “spice up their life” and do “extraordinary” things so as to “live life to the fullest”. But then again hor, a very eventful life or a super duper colorful life may not mean that at the end of your life (haha, you understand me?) as you look back at what you have done, the events of your life, that you will consider it a life that is well lived. I hope I can come out of this boredom soon enough. Let’s have a party! Haha….. =)

Oh and anyway, happy mid-autumn festival =) or mooncake festival, or lantern festival.... Though I find tradition slowly slipping away.....

Forgetfulness....

I think we human beings are very capable of being forgetful; though I have no idea also whether animals are forgetful. We probably find it very easy to forget how hard we ever tried or strived for somethings; how much pain we had or energy we spent, such that after we have obtained (or attained) that particular something, we might possibly let it go again easily -- or just do some things to cause things to go haywire. I really pray very very hard that God will help me not to be so forgetful, despite seeing those around me being so.

Oh and did I mention

I got ridiculed by my friend for having a blog? SO what right? Friend referred having blogs as something very "funny" an idea to have. Friend referred blogs as being gossipy and for people who have nothing better to do. Friend referred people who read blogs as weird. Friend said people blog because we wanna have more topics to chat with people; like people read your blog, know about something about you and probably subsequently msg u on msn -- thus referring to blogging as higher the chances of people talking to you. THAT IS SO TOTALLY WRONG, ok? I told friend that blogs are just like people who write articles, why the need to see it as a diary? I told friend that I DO NOT find my blog as gossipy, and certainly I dun feel it's BECAUSE we have nothing to do, then we keep a blog. But probably, WHEN we have nothing much to do, then we blog. Then again, that in itself is not totally true also. I told friend that blogging is CERTAINLY NOT BECAUSE WE WANNA CREATE OPPORTUNITIES TO TALK MORE WITH PEOPLE! I mean, are we freaks or what who are so deprived in talking to people? I subsequently told friend that I feel friend is NOT OPEN MINDED (enough). And somehow I think by saying that, spite friend a lil and blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda ding dong bell We ended the argument promptly, anyway it was close to 2am. Hey friend, I hope you are not checking back on my blog! =) If you are, then now you falling into the category of people who have nothing better to do than to read people's blog. =p

Very nice Bridget Jones!

Come on, Bridget Jones Is really very nice, 好吗? =) I watched the part 2 while my flight to Korea and then now that I rent part 1 to watch, I feel even more reminded of why I like this film so much. =) The happy part 2 - The Edge of Reason Haha, it really was Two thumbs up. My toes are up too. Very nicely written story, I feel. I like those parts when Colin Firth shows he really loves Bridget Jones "just as she is". I mean, how easy is it to love someone "just as" he or she is? Like in the story, to not mind a woman who smokes, who is a bad public speaker, who does disastrous things to embarass herself and her partner, etc. It's not easy, but I believe, till that very day when we can not be in pretence in front of "the other person" - to show all of that which we really are - then that is the day that we meet that very one for us..... haha, so act sensual..... haha.... Oh, yeah, I like Hugh Grant so much! =D

Very nice

Bridget Jones Diary is very nice. I have watched the part 2 and now the part 1. The function of diversion of the media rarely fails on me.`

Image hosted by Photobucket.com A rainy day at home today and is watch TV while mama is helping to make a lantern. I got very ministered by this verse recently and I put it as my MSN nick Image hosted by Photobucket.com Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:1-8 And last thing last for this entry..... Image hosted by Photobucket.com I have them on my wall paper!! =) I miss them sooooo much~
